For more than a decade, Work Effects has analyzed conflict within organizations through Conflict LensTM. Through extensive research of over 1,600 different conflict situations, we have found that conflict can be analyzed, conflict can managed, and conflict can be resolved to create a more trusting environment between managers and employees, leading to successfully meeting business objectives. Although different conflicts call for different approaches, our research has shown that certain behaviors, if done well, tend to result in constructive outcomes. Engaging the other person in resolving the conflict, trying to see their point of view, and building trust are some examples of what can be done to reach successful outcomes. Any organization that can help its employees understand how they respond in workplace situations will have created better employees that are better communicators and ultimately, more trustworthy leaders. The Work Effects Conflict Lens process is part know thyself and another part listening. If someone is willing to recognize the ten behaviors that are outlined above, look at how they respond in conflict situations, and take corrective action if necessary, they can learn to better employees, better managers and better leaders.
