Leadership Dev - Leadership Dev

If a leader has completed a Work Effects Revolution 360TM assessment and has put together an ACTIONTM plan to leverage his/her strengths and mitigate weaknesses, oftentimes management will invest in a professional trainer or facilitator to aid the leader in taking the optimal steps toward successful leadership development.  By working closer with a trainer in one-to-one or small group sessions, the leadership growth process is accelerated and gets participants started on the right path to positive change.

Work Effects’ ACESTM Training sessions that follow an ACTION plan are a customized and modular system of coaching that applies the latest adult learning and experiential methodologies to real-world situations.  They are designed to engage participants, develop leadership skills and help them to achieve business objectives.

The ACES Training program is implemented in four parts: assess, challenge, engage, support.

    Part 1 - Assess
The coach asks the leader to become more self-aware and reflect upon their skills, behaviors and ambitions.  By helping the leader self-analyze, the coach is guiding the leader to see themselves as others would see them. Using this knowledge, the leader can be more honest with what his/her strengths and weaknesses are, reflect upon how they behave in situations that may positively or negatively affect their effectiveness, and begin to understand what are the underlying motivators they have both personally and professionally.

    Part 2 – Challenge
After making this self-analysis, the leader is asked to focus on his/her own personal development plan and craft an ACTION plan that will enhance their key skills and behaviors that are critical to their success as well as the success of the organization.

    Part 3 – Engage
Having an ACTION plan in place is only a start. Without enthusiasm and commitment from the leader, the best ACTION plan will not be successful.  The coach helps the leader get engaged in the plan’s successful implementation. The coach shows the leader that with proper implementation, they will be able to meet their personal, professional and organizational goals.

    Part 4 – Support
If the enthusiasm and commitment are there and the ACTION plan is being properly carried out, then the coach is available to provide ongoing feedback, guidance and support to the leader as he/she follows through with the plan.

Teaching ProsTM Training
For some organizations, particularly those with large-scale leadership development initiatives, soliciting an external expert to facilitate feedback and/or train leaders is not feasible because of financial, resource or logistical reasons.

One way to be able to bring coaching expertise in-house is through the Work Effects TeachingPros Training program. Facilitated by internal staff that has already completed the ACES Coaching program, these internal coaches can pass on what they’ve learned to others.

Work Effects offers these train-the-trainer sessions to provide internal staff with the skills, knowledge, and techniques to teach managers how to strengthen their facilitation skills and develop the capacity to lead effective feedback sessions with their employees.  Typically Work Effects utilizes a hands-on experiential learning approach and adheres to no more than a 1:20 ratio between trainers and participants.  The internal trainers taught in these sessons are most often HR professionals or select managers.  However, organizations have also successfully trained administrative and even non-exempt personnel in this role.  Selection should be based primarily on the individual’s credibility and trust level of the managers whom they, in turn, will be training.
